If you're receiving this newsletter for the first time...WELCOME to the family! And if you're an old friend... WELCOME back! REEL Time is an extension of the annual SONscreen Film Festival, which is sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America.
Over the past several months REEL Time has been highlighting the winners of this year's 2009 SONscreen Film Festival VII that took place in Simi Valley, CA on April 16-18, 2009. It was a fantastic weekend of films, inspiration, and education. Hope you're ready for next year's SSFF VIII.
SAVE THE DATE-- April 8-10, 2010! Call for entries coming soon! We're launching a NEW Non-Student Independent/professionals category for films--and that is going to be exciting!
AND... THIS JUST IN! The Jonathan Dulan Highschool Award will be adding a cash award prize! High school student(s) can win up to $500 in addition to the collegiate scholarship prize this year! Things just keep getting better and better for 2010!
And finally, don't forget to look out for the 2009 SONscreen Commemorative DVD that will be released just in time for the holidays... great stocking stuffer!

Q: What was your first reaction when you heard the news that you had won the category?
"It feels good to get an award after putting so much time and hard work into the film."
Q: What was the inspiration behind your film?
'It's easy for us to go cautiously through life, but a truly fulfilled existence, I believe, involves risks. I need that reminder often."
Q: Why do you feel a festival like SONscreen is important to have?
"It's important to have a venue for young Christian artists to explore their passion. We are called to positively affect the world, and the festival is helping in that mission."
Q: What new project are your working on and how can people reach you or see more of your work?
"I am currently working on videos for Loma Linda University and La Sierra University. I can be reached at carl.canwell@wallawalla.edu"

Job Title: Film & Television Asst. Professor
Location: Boston, MA
Description: Inviting candidates for a three-year renewable position.The Production program is part of an integrated Liberal Arts curriculum that includes Screenwriting and Media Studies. Production on film remains central to the program even as HD digital media is integrated. All post-production is digital.
Seeking an accomplished filmmaker who can impart technical and conceptual production skills to undergraduate and graduate students in hands-on production classes. Although expertise in a particular craft (directing, cinematography, producing, etc.) is welcome, we seek a complete filmmaker. Some previous teaching experience is required; a graduate degree, though not essential, is helpful. Submit a cover letter that addresses these questions:
- How would you describe a well-taught undergraduate film and television major?
- How would you characterize your teaching skills?
- At least three references
- Please do not submit work samples or letters of recommendation at this time.
